A Billy Graham Film
A thrill-ride through tragedy, lost love and redemption
Hot-shot pilot Dan Hogan is sent deep into the Colombian jungle to rescue missionary doctor Ann Williams. Caught between innocent villagers and a ruthless drug lord, Ann won’t abandon the people she has come to love. Filmed in Puerto Rico, this story blends thrilling adventure and powerful drama with beautiful filmmaking. The message is clear – even a hero needs Jesus Christ as his Savior. Rene’ Morento, Adriano Gonzalez, Vicellous Shannon and Cliff DeYoung complete the solid casting. World Wide Pictures, in association with River Stone Productions, has created a riveting film with exciting action sequences, a dynamic cast, and spiritual relevance. Thank You !
Dear Gunpowder Family,
We were certainly surprised to receive so many beautiful cards and special words of congratulations on our 60 th wedding anniversary. The Lord has richly blessed us with so many years together. Time passes so quickly it hardly seems possible we have had 60 years together. We have worked hard and raised 3 beautiful daughters of which we are very proud.
It is wonderful to have so many Christian friends and we thank and love each and every one of you. Thanks so much and God bless,
Ken and Myrtle Gettle

Snow Emergency Plan
We do not plan to cancel any of our Worship Services, but in the event of an ice storm or heavy snow, we may be forced to miss a service.
Since it is not practical for us to call you, you may call any one of our Deacons after 8:00 a.m. The decision should be made by then.
In other years, we have had ice storms leaving the driveway and parking lot hazardous. Therefore, we had to cancel all services. On some occasions after a snowstorm, we get the driveway opened only in time for worship services. On the decision concerning Sunday School, you may call Pastor Jack.
--- The website will also have an announcement if there is any cancellation.

The Adult Sunday School Department held its business meeting on Sunday, February 5 th with its next meeting scheduled for March 5 th.
The director opened in prayer and then gave a devotional on “What is Love? What does it look like?” Augustine, 5 th century church father, provided this answer – “It has the hands to help others. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.”
Love is something we do, but it is something God is.

A comparison was made of our 2002 attendance with our 2006 attendance sheets to date. Overall the current attendance is slightly lower and can be attributed to several factors including our space problem necessitating use of the Masonic building and a special class being taught by Pastor Jack. This is a class which every member should consider attending to learn “who we are.”
Several of the classes already have projects and ministries outside the class, but it was decided that the department would select a project together. This project is based on the old Chinese proverb, “Give someone a fish and he will eat today. Teach someone to fish and he will eat forever.”
The project works like this. You can select a cow, camel, goat, etc., depending on what the department would prefer to buy. We purchase a pregnant goat for example. The goat is sent to a family in Africa. When the baby goat is born, it is given to another needy family. The family then sells milk and cheese to other people in their village and with the money they buy clothes for their children, pay for them to attend school, usually three or more miles from their home, and buy food for their family. This process repeats itself again and again.
Bill Abbey offered to be in charge of this project. Each class is encouraged to put their spare change in the collection box he will provide. Bill will send each class a sheet explaining this procedure. When enough money is collected, an animal will be purchased and the process will be initiated.
Take a moment during the week and meditate upon this. “It is more religious and more reverent to believe in the worlds of the Diety than to comprehend them.” (Tacitus)

Carolyn C. Foster, Director

FAITH Ministry
Jesus gave His people a command, “Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
We love people. We don’t want to see anyone go to hell. Yet, how can the lost know of Christ if we don’t tell them?
We need you in FAITH. Won’t you join us?
It is truly an honor to serve God through FAITH.
In His Service,
Carolyn C. Foster - Director

Prayer Ministry
| Watchman Prayer Ministry - “Intercessors” |

Dear Church Family,
We must be in constant prayer for our church. We have many needs. God's Word is very clear when it comes to prayer. "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18) Notice the words "always" and "without ceasing" and "in everything". God's instruction allows no time limits, circumstance or situation in which we should not be thankful - none whatsoever. God knows our needs. He is just waiting to bless us. Remember these words form James 4:2, you have not because you ask not. Remember what follows James 4:2; you ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives... This is a real tragedy. Especially in light of the needs we have and the wonderful promises God makes to us concerning prayer. Jesus says: "And I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened. All is just for obeying Him.
There are still a few open slots on the prayer wall, 1:30 a.m., 2:00 a.m. 8:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.. Please call Iris ath the church office 410.343.1365 or MAry Scheuerman at home.
Please remember, God loves you and wants to bless you. He wants to bless our church endeavors; who will pray?
Bob Scheuerman
Prayer Coordinator

Women's Ministry
Our Ladies Event held on Friday, February 10th was a wonderful treat. Mrs. Betty Cummings shared her testimony of how she and her three siblings were placed in the General German Orphan Home in Catonsville, Maryland, when Mrs. Betty was eleven years old. Her mother had passed away from illness a year earlier, and her father – a farmer – was unable to care for the four children during the hard times of the war. Mrs. Betty brought pictures so that we could visualize her story. She told us about their living arrangements, their summers, their chores and how they were taught responsibility; how she started teaching Sunday School and VBS early in her teenage years. It was truly a joy to see how the love of siblings and the love of the staff at the Orphan home helped to mold Mrs. Betty and grow her into the wonderful woman she is today. Truly, love endures! Included below is Mrs. Betty’s graduation picture and a short story that the General German Ophan Home published about Mrs. Betty’s life in their care:
Betty Lou Stahler (Cummings)
"Betty has been one of our family since she was eleven years old and through the years she has had an enviable record. In elementary school, she was considered a 'credit to her class' and this desire to be a good citizen and a Christian character has cominated her early life. Betty has studied hard and has succeeded in making an excellent record in high school. For the past two years she has had letters of commendation from her principal. In her senior year she is on the Honor Roll, making an A-B rating.
Confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in 1944, Betty has taught Sunday school for three years and Vacation Bible School in 1948. She is treasurer of the Luther League and a regular attendant at Scunday School and Church. In 1948 she was sent by Salem Lutheran Church to the summer school for church workers at Hood College from Ujly 17 to 24. This was a real inspiration to Betty, whose deep religious convictions have characterized her attitude toward life.
Betty has taken a business course and feels that she could make a success in sellin gmerchandise. As she is posessed with dignity, poise and an earnest desire to please, we feel sure she will succeed in this field."
Ms. Betty, your true character has followed you through life. The woman at Gunpowder Baptist Church and in our community appreciate the beautiful spirit of Christianity that you show to us. You are a true example of Christ.

Ladies’ Tuesday Morning Bible Study
An Eight Week Study
Beginning February 7th
Ending April 4th, 2006
9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
Study
We will continue with the daily devotional, “Words of Life”. The study will start with week 24 and go through week 29 of the book. If you would like to attend this study and don’t have a book, please contact Mary Hamrick to make arrangements for purchasing a devotional book.
Purpose
The “Words of Life” devotional is used as a Bible Study tool to help us learn how to apply Bible teachings to our lives. We meet together once a week to discuss what we are learning, how we are applying the scripture to our lives, and we meet to encourage each other in our spiritual journey.
Eight Choices that Will Change a Woman's Life - by Jill Briscoe
You can choose to have a life that is happy, blessed, and pleasing to God. These qualities are within your grasp, but you will have choices to make. It's up to you. This insightful book will give you the tools you need to make choices that will change your life for good! BAsed on the wisdom of the book of James, this study offers guidelines for life's complex choices.
We will use the "Words of Life" devotional as our beginning devotional message and move into the study of the eight choices that will change a woman's life. In doing this, we can combine two great studies and learn life application Bible skills from both resources.
There is still time to join in !
